I've been hearing some people saying that fruits should not be eaten together with other carbs such as rice, bread of vegs. It seems that the digestive system works differently in breaking down glucose and fructose. Any truth in this?
I've only heard about separating carbs from proteins so far...

Eat your fruits if you are having them earlier in the day. Fructose tops off liver glycogen, carbs supply muscle glycogen. Spillover from both is extremely bad.

And just when I thought I had this eating thing down....bb1 you should write a book. I've already printed enough of your posts to start it.

Erm... so I take it that I should not mix them both together if possible? Usually I have a protein shake with banana in the morning... and another protein shake with juice at night. I might have 1-2 fruits during lunch... So should I make eating fruits as a snack by itself?

Oh well, something else i've been doing wrong. Quite often have a couple of pieces of fruit at night to stop me snacking.
Need to start eating them before dinner now.

a glass of milk be4 goin to bed is also good as it has proteins like casein will slowly provide ur body with a steady flow of protein at night. milk also helps in going to sleep

Ron- I have heard this before, and read a few of the articles on the pros and cons of fructose as opposed to other carbs, and was wondering if you would be willing to go into more specific detail, specifically the why?
Thank you.

Yep - put me in for a couple of dozen of those books. I can re-sell locally. I replied to a poster earlier today about the fruit glucose but had no idea of the reason behind it.

Well, this is not as bad as orignally thought. It comes down to extreme dieting. As in getting to single digit bodyfats, then this works. It in fact only really works as it deprives you at some point of calories. Food partioning is not really feasible, again if used it only succeeds really due to limiting you in some way.
This post was a couple years old, and nutrient partioning was thought at some point to be good. But again, this was kind of a Beardi thing, and really doesn't wash. Though the premise is correct, fructose does top off liver glycogen, there is nothing wrong with that.
But, where the problem could well arise is when calories are at a premium. As in getting to single digit fat levels as mentioned. Then, every calorie is needed for practical use, muscle glycogen, and you have no calories to "waste" so to speak. So, a little fruit in the morning may not be a bad idea, as liver glycogen is really what is depleted overnight as you fast. Your body will have a higher amount of FFA in the morning, and insulin sensitivity will be low.
