Boxing/Cardio Question

Can boxing (i.e. sparring or going rounds with a punching bag) be substituted for cardio? Would this be detrimental if I am already doing 4 days of weights a week?

General input from anyone who has tried this before would be helpful.

Thanks

Yo efitts,

When I was a bit younger (late 20s, early 30s), I would use a speed bag in my basement for 30 minutes at a pop while wearing wrist weights. Let me tell you, it was one hell of a cardio workout. Nowadays I use treadmills, stair climbers, and elliptical trainers (speed bags make too much noise!). But, these don't give me the heart pumping, sweat drenched, aerobic workouts I remember when hittin' the bag. Just my 2 cents.

Hmmm... You got me thinking... Maybe I'll install my old speed bag in the basement of the new house and buy a set of ear muffs... Woo Hoo!

Boxing is definitely great cardio!!
Nothing can give me a better sweat......
I'll suggest to do some slow endurance cardio once or twice a week as well 45-60 mins (fast walking, biking, rollerblading....)
