Hi, I was wondering if I could get some suggestions on lifting routines. I like to lift 3x a week along with cardio 4-5/per week. I am just looking to strip down my body fat. I've been stuck in this rut for a while and need some fresh ideas. Help!

Currently, I lift 3x a week, but my routine hasn't been consistent. I do cardio 4-5x a week either doing the precor, treadmill or stepmill for 30-40 minutes, or I'll do a spin class. I am 145-150 lbs and want to lose fat and get the nice definition I once had. Any thoughts?

Ok it is harder without knowing how long you have been lifting but, to lose fat lift weights that challenge you. Do not fall prey to that "light weights/high reps" bs. While light weights and high reps have their place I do not believe that they cause fat loss and they will not build a good amount of muscle which you need in order to burn fat. See if you build lean mass that burns more cals which in turn burns fat off. So I would try the mass building programs here and make sure you eat enough none of that 1200 or less cals. Hope this helps-------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Ok, I have been lifting for almost 10 years and am fresh out of ideas for exercises too. Any thoughts? So going heavier you think will be a good thing even for women?

I think it is the most overlooked way for women by women. You will not bulk like a man would. You will gain weight thought as you build muscle, but since it takes up less space, you will loose size. What intrests you about lifting? Do you have any goals for strenght, size, etc....I mean I know powerlifting and mass building for the most part. What equipment do you have a gym? home or nothing? that also will be important. A good idea is to start with the basics, bench, squats, deadlifts, chins, bent rows overhead presses etc...curls skull crushers etc...-------------- deadlifts rule!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Keep the cardio going but you need to push yourself with the weights. Try some of the routines on the site. You can mix and match the exercises. This will keep your muscles/body on your toes. Also keeps the workout more interesting and keeps you out the rut. Too many women are scared to try bigger weights. It won't make the same physical changes to women as it does to men so you shouldn't worry about doing that extra bit of weight. It'll give you the definition your looking for.

Hey, I pushed myself on chest and back last night and am actually a bit sore today. Yeah! I took spin last night too which was good as well. What do you do for abs?

I've been lifting heavy for the last few months and the progress I've made is more than the 2 years prior that I wasn't lifting heavy. Even though I've got a long ways to go, I am a lot more inspired now. I can feel the muscles getting bigger, it's great. My legs are stronger than some of the guys and mine aren't big and bulky, they are just getting really nice definition. I do a pretty intense leg workout that includes 3 kinds of squats, lunges, extensions, curls and my favorite (although less effective I have heard)the leg press. I pressed 730 last week. I was so excited when my husband told me that was 14 plates! Now if my upper body could get half that strong.....-------------- ~Victoria~ ...Some things have to be believed to be seen! |

Wow, your progress is great. I used to lift heavy and then stopped because I thought I should go lighter with more reps. The standard female thinking I guess,. But, I also haven't seen any muscle gains at all. Will I lose fat as well and see the defined look that I have been dreaming of?
Congrats on your 730 lbs! You should be proud of yourself. |
