Mike Mentzer was a great bodybuilder, as was his brother. What he advocated obviously worked for him. I believe he advocated 1 heavy set to failure, and that is it. But, it depends on your muscle fiber distribution. The majority of us do not have this, we have a more even distribution, so it takes a rep range of 9-12 in most cases to produce hypertrophy. Experiment with it and see, you may be one of the lucky ones.
