Hi everyone. I've been working out faithfully (woohoo!) for the past three months and have been having very pleasing results. However, whenever I do calf raises, where you lift up on your toes, about the middle of the second set, I get these awful cramps in the muscles on the outsides of my feet. I do have fallen arches and have tons of problems with the bottoms of my feet and my ankles. Are these cramps caused by the weak muscles that were caused by the fallen arches? I don't want to stop doing calf raises, will these cramps lessen as my muscles in my feet strengthen? Is there anything to do to ease the cramps? Right now, I stretch my feet the best I can between sets and on my third set, I have to stop midway through to stretch it again. Thanks all!

Hello.
I was having the same problem until I located a shoe with better, sturdier support. The shoe that I had been wearing was incredibly flexible...maybe a little too much :o)
Still have a little pain sometimes but not as much..hope this helps some <smile>
If not, perhaps a doctor?

Hey Misty02!

Congrats on the steady workout schedule! Great job!

Re: the cramps, how's your nutrition? If my potassium levels get a little too low, I get leg/foot cramps. In addition to jefado's and baymaster's suggestions, maybe a banana before calf raises??? Couldn't hurt...

Banana's are great for cramping. Also, check your multi-vitamins for Potassium level. A really good stretch should help.

Bay - I don't like doing my exercises without shoes because of cramping. I seem to cramp more.
