good balanced diet, with resistance training and cardio. Also you cannot spot reduced fat from just one area. You have to createa calorie deficient in order to lose fat period.

Abs are created in the kitchen. Most who have abs (six pak showing) didn't get like that in 4 weeks just from doing crunches.
You must eat clean and weight train along with cardio.
Creating a calorie deficincy means using more than you consume.
Good Luck.

It may help you lose body fat, IF you also have the proper diet. But it likely won't cause you to lose stomach fat in just one summer. There is no exercise or diet that will take fat off of one specific area of your body. Typically, when you lose fat, it is all over. Also, usually, the stomach is one of the last and most difficult places that you lose fat from. It takes exercise AND diet mixed together with dedication, patience, and TIME.

Gwindalyn, you are sure right about that!!! I have been working really strenuously since the middle or March and I still have my stomach. My diet is pretty clean, but I have not gotten to th 150% clean yet. I really do very well during the week but the weekends are still difficult!!! I will get upset if it is not gone, or well on the way to being gone, by March of 2004!!!

My belly is always the last thing to go, hang in there and stick with it the abs will shine through. It took me a little over a year, but I can see them now, not as strong as I want them to be, but they will. Diet is the key here, exercises for the abs comes second.

Is a clean diet more important that actually doing ab work? And what is the magic number of times a week to do abs? My husband and I followed a 45 day program we found in Muscle and Fitness Hers a while back that had us doing different workouts every other day for upper abs, lower abs and obliques. It must've worked cuz we lost at least on inch from each area by the end of the 45 days. It had three different levels of difficulty, so you could do it over and over.

If you eat really clean and do a total weight training routine, working the abs once per week would work because in other certain exercises the abs are working.
Keep up the good work.

"clean" foods are not refined, low in fat, or none, and good carbs. No fried foods, no Macs etc etc.
Allow yourself a cheat day after a while and have something you crave.

Sure...take in less calories than you need, and you will lose weight. At the end of the day, this is what it is really all about.

Working out would be a nice addition though, if you simply lose weight, much of it will be muscle as well as fat, and may well change your muscle to fat ratio for the worse.

And without working out, you cannot "mold" your body into the shape you desire, if you are now pear shaped for instance, you will simply become a smaller but flabbier pear shape.
