are one-legged squats of any value? i'm looking for some alternatives for the squat. i already know about lunges, front squat, db squats and presses. i always come away the next day with a sore back. i've gotten some help from a trainer with form and I can tell when i'm lifting with my back and not my legs. i'm not going to give them up entirely. i'm posting this in the old men's board because i am.

well I would say it is of value, because you would be hitting more of the secondary fibers in the myuscles, since the other leg is not being used.
Nice to see you again.

One legged squats really work wonders BUT you have to be extremely careful with your knees.
If your back hurts when doing the other exercises why not do lunges?

yeh, thanks. I do lunges, forward, backward, with and without weights, standing and walking. I don't know why, but I don't want to give up the squats entirely. Looking for as many alternatives as possible.

Ya I do them too, but I always seem to get a libido charge doing regular barbell squats. I've started to monitor my lifting weight more closely and when I begin to lift with my back, I either quit, rest lower the weight, do lunges and and them come back to the rack, depending where I'm at in the sets.
