I posted this on another thread but havent gotten too much response. I was wondering if anyone here has tried pilates in addition to the weight training and cardio. How do you like it? Are you getting faster results? My friend is doing pilates a few time a week but she doesnt do weights . I was thinking of incorporating it into my routine maybe twice a week. What do you think?
Thanks in advance

I've been self-training with pilates to help an old hip injury. It is a different kind of workout because you really have to focus on your body and the movements if you want results. If you do it without focus, it's like rolling around on the floor. If you take your time and do it properly, it seems to help with balance, poise, and tone, although not muscle gains to the extent that lifting weights does.

Pilates is a good form of ab and lower body workout, but in no way would i replace it for weight training and cardio, they are totally different forms of exercise.

Thank you Everyone. RavenBeauty, i was thinking of adding it to my routine in addition to doing weight and cardio. I would never give those up, especially weight training i love it too much! Im wanting to try new things because i used to bellydance and had to quit (for now) due to my fibromialgia. I was hoping that pilates and maybe yoga would help to strengthen my back so i can get back into it :o) I've tried doing back extensions on the machine and on the ball but they really irritate my back so im looking for something else to help it. I really miss my bellydancing, i hope these exercise would help me get back into it soon! Thanks again everyone! Take care!

I do that sypress, i try to get in that or yoga or a combination of both at least once a week. it is great for stretching out the body after those intense workouts! on the pilates you might want to try a tape that has modified positions since your back is irritated at the moment, mine goes in three stages from beginner to advanced. when i get home tonight i will check out the name and brand and post it for you. good luck!

I like it it has different levels to start, beginner intermediate and advanced with modified forms as well so that is really essential on starting out on a program like this.

good luck!

I do weights and cardio four times a week and recently have added a day for a yogalaties class. This is a pilates and yoga mix. I love it. I really feel it in my back and core and hips. It helps with posture and energy levels too. WE also do some relaxation and meditation in our class and I come out feeling very energized and refreshed. I could not believe it this stuff is giving me fast results. Anyway check into yogalaties if it is in your area. I do not know of any good videos on this one yet but I will ask next week.

i do pilates around 5 times a week in addition to cardio and dance lessons, and i find it really refreshing and that it makes my body stronger and more flexible/toned. i have a lot of the tapes by jennifer kries. i like her method a lot--she combines it with dance/yoga. though i've heard really good things about windsor pilates too, and ordered some of those tapes as well. if i'm not doing a video i'll go to a mat class at my gym which is good because there's an actual instructor there who can tell you if your form is right.
i would recommend the book "The Pilates Body" by Brook Siler..it describes how you should do the different mat exercises in great detail and i found it very helpful :)

I do the winsor pilates about 5 times a week in addition to my cardio and weights. the pilates tapes really seem to help with the back and abs. I have never felt my abs being this sore before. They are really being worked, this is good!!!
