Let's say I'm sitting at my desk doing work... will ab contractions help build my abs up or lose the weight around my waist and stomach? By ab contractions I just mean tightening my abs up and leaning forward, releasing and doing it again a few times. Will this help at all?

Also, what's a good exercise for my forearms? I find that when I do seated pulls for my backs, my forearms are giving in too fast. Any good exercises for targeting forearms only? Thanks!

wrist curls will help you strengthen your forearms. Do palms up and palms down curls with a barbell or dumbells.
You could also get some lifting straps - my forearms fatigue and cramp up when i go really heavy on back day. Gradually, though,my hands and forearms have gotten stronger.
You could also get a grip strenghtener.
Your crunches might helptrengthen your abs, but I don't know that they will realy do much for weight loss. There really is no such thing as spot reducing/toning. Think about it - if it worked, everyone who chews gum would have really awesome, lean, muscular jaws, right?
More than anything, a good nutritional plan will get rid of your abdominal fat, coupled with a good exercise routine. you can't fail!
