Okay, I have been jogging at least 4 times a week and weight training about 5 times a week for about 3 months. I have also drastically improved my diet. My typical diet would be..

breakfast: oatmeal and a bagel
snack: grapefruit
lunch: either chicken strips or a protein shake
snack: nutri-grain bar or some type of protein bar
dinner: anything sensible-chicken, steak, tacos, with vegetables

What am I doing wrong? Am I just expecting the results to come to quickly? I have really been pushing it in the gym lately too. I am starting to get discouraged so any help would be greatly appreciated.

okay you say your fat, but has there been any changes? how much did you weigh to start with, and now? have you taken body measurements? if its okay with your doctor you may want to start induction on atkins. find out the number of calories you should have per day for maintenance and then reduce this. in order to lose weight you have to basically burn 3500 calories. watch your sodium intake and sugar intake (those protein bars are usually very high sugar). how much water are you drinking? are you sure there isn't a medical problem here?

Ok-I weigh exactly the same as I did when I started. In fact I've acctually gained like 4 pounds. I do notice that the shape of my body has changed (I guess b/c of all of the heavy weight trainig) but I really need fat loss. BAD!!!!!

*I always check out the protein bars I get-I try to make sure the carbs don't come from sugars, too.

I also drink a good bit of water. I have found that on my "off" days I don't seem to drink as much even though I know I should.

What exactly is the adkins diet all about? Is it just low almost no carbs? don't you need some carbs? I thought there were "good" carbs (complex) and bad (simple)

You're weight training 5 times a week. You're gaining muscle. Since muscle weighs more than fat, the scale is not going to drop in numbers.

AGeis hit the button. Forget the scale. Use a tape measure.
Cut back on the carbs.
Oatmeal and a bagel for breakfast, forget the bagel, they are loaded with sugar.Replace it with some good protein.
Take a look at your nutrients as in protein/carbs and fats.
Focus on 1 gram of protein per lb of body weight.
It might be alot, but it is essential in helping repare and build muscle cells and is an aid in burning calories.

We must become the change we want to see.

Ageis and Carivan are right. Throw that scale out the window. Take all of your measurements with a cloth measuring tape and write them down and get your body fat and BMI measureed. Go by the measurements and how your clothes fit and how you feel.

Since March 10, I have been counting only grams of protein, carbs, and fats and making sure the grams I eat are the kind that are good for me.

You don't have your profile filled in, so it's a bit hard to give you specifics. First, I'd nix the bagel and the protein bars and replace them with something more beneficial. I don't know what you currently weigh, but it doesn't seem like you would be getting enough calories, especially from proteins. If you don't get enough to eat, your body will think you are fasting and start to store calories. But you also don't want to get too much food. :)

I was told to shoot for 8 to 10 times my weight(1gram protein per lbs of weight, .75gram carb per lbs of weight, and .25gram fat per lbs of weight) if I wanted to lose.

My typical daily meals are:
Breakfast 7am: Multi-grain oatmeal, 2 egg whites, 1tbsp flax seed oil, grapefruit or apple.
Mid-morning 9am: protein powder, 1 cup fat free milk, 4 frozen strawberries
Lunch 12pm: 1 cup salad, 1tbsp fat free dressing, 6oz chicken breast or tuna or top round cooked in 1tsp olive oil, 1 cup steamed broccoli or spinach (sometimes instead of the salad, I have natural wild rice)
Mid-afternoon 3pm: 1/2 cup fat free cottage cheese, 1/2 cup kidney beans or black beans or lima beans
Dinner 6pm: 6oz chicken or tuna or top round or salmon cooked in 1tsp olive oil, 2 cups salad, 1tbsp fat free dressing

If I get hungry any other times, I might have a handful of roasted soybeans or a bit of tuna or raw celery or carrots depending on time of day.

This gives me around 200 protein, 150 carbs, and 50 fat a day, which is around 1850 calories. I have coupled this with cardio on Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday as well as weight training on Saturday (upper body) and Sunday (lower body).

The first week, I lost lbs. The second week, I gained it right back, and was told to throw away the scale by someone very wise :) Since then, I've gone by measurements and how I feel. I've seen much better results than I expected.

The way it was explained to me is that muscles burn fat and cardio burns calories. So the more muscle you build, the more your metabolism raises and the more fat you burn off. The cardio keeps you from gaining additional fat by way of calories. Muscle weighs more than fat in about half the space. So you could actually weigh more, but wear several sizes smaller in clothing. :)

Don't get discouraged! Patience and determination are key.

Oops. Forgot to mention water. In a week's time, I only have a maximum of 2 glasses (if that) of diet soda. The only other thing I drink is water. Presently, I get no less than 100oz a day, and most days I try for 150oz.

I never realized the difference water makes until I started doing this. I don't think I'll ever go back to coffee, tea, and sodas.

NIce diet, Gwindalyn!!
You are on track - ht you need more protein, less sugary bars like the nutrigrain, and more food. Try gwindalyn's diet for a week and see how you feel.

Question to this diet info: If one is looking to lose weight...would you still do the combination of protein, carbs, fats with the body weight you currently have or would you calculate the desired weight desired? Seems like a silly question but kind of confused on it. Thanks all.

I'm not sure which way is right, but I was planning to recalculate as my weight changed. That is what logically made sense to me anyway.
