I finished the basic workout and have moved over to the Mass Building program now that I feel confident in my goals. I am training 4 days a week with this program, and it seems odd. I know you need time for your muscles to rest and build up, but is a full week needed before you can work them out again. I know other exercises target other muscle groups secondary; is that the reason?
Bingo. Generally speaking, a good 5-7 days should be in between working muscle groups directly, with some indirect work involved as well; for example, working triceps directly one day, then a few days later doing chest (indirect tricep workout).
