I'm having a problem with evening eating. I'm starting to eat protein shake when i get home from the gym and than I'll eat like 1/2 hour later. Should I eat no carbs after that? Should I not eat a cup of rice in the evening? Does anyone have a sample meal plan i can look at? I'm trying to loose about 20 pounds of body fat in like 4 months. So.. i'm in need of some help to lean out.

The theory is that you shouldnt eat carbs before you go to bed if you are trying to lose weight - I presume the idea behind it is that you cant burn this fuel off whilst asleep I presume you are training late in the evening so its esential you get some carbs and obviously protein after your workout - as for meal plans.....search this site, its all in here if you look. goodluck

thanks baymaster, but what types of carbs should I eat in the evening after I work out? What's a good snack I can eat in the evening with not too many carbs? Any ideas anyone.

My workouts are in the morning, but I have been going with 100% multi-grain oatmeal or kidney beans or all natural wild rice. I usually eat it between 50 and 60 minutes after my workout.
I don't know if this is right. :) Just what I started doing.

Try a 5-6 oz. sweet potato. Good fibrous and starchy carb, will also aid in glycogen storage.

I also have the same question that asaia23 has... we train after 6:30-7:00 pm. We come home around 8:00 pm. and we don't eat ready meals so I cook. I mostly cook fish, chicken or beef. and some type of carbs, mashed potatoes, rice or pasta. and some dark leaf salad on the side (with a bit olive oil and lemon juice) we don't eat too much of it, just a single plate. eg. 1.5 cup rice, 1 chicken breast(not fried, just broiled) and 1 cup salad... we go to bed around 12:00pm-1:00am. is this too much to eat that late in the evening?

As mentioned earlier, a sweet potato is excellent, even beans(black, lima, kidney),not mashed potatoes or pasta. Your digestive system does not stop working at night! If you have just trained hard, there is no problem. The combo of lean protein, fibrous carbs such as the salad greens, and a 5 oz. sweet potato is great. The sweet potato has about 40 gr. of useful carbs, and and about 200 calories. A cup of black beans has 14 gr. of protein, 40 gr. of good carbs, and only 200 calories. Be smart, eat what is useful!

I know everyone says not to eat, if possible, after 7PM. But what if they suffer from insomnia like me, and am often up until 2-3AM??

conan - you haven't heard very many people on this site say not to eat after 7. Actually it's just the opposite.

Who says not to eat? Another retarded self imposed calorie/nutrient deprivation that cannot normally be sustained.
