Well, you may have answered your own question. Your diet. You cannot make many changes no matter how hard you work out without proper diet. It is like abs, people do tons of sets in the gym, sweat like crazy. But they complain time after time that they may even look fatter! Well, if you are building muscle there, and not changing your diet, the new muscle will just push the fat out even further, thus the fatter look. The workout is the catalyst for your desired gains/losses, but your nutrition determines the amount of gains/losses. It is kind of like driving to work, doing the job, but leaving without ever getting paid. Hope this makes sense.
