ft says that cardiovascular activity is most effective when performed immediately after a workout or early in the morning before your breakfast. what about immediately before you go to bed? This seems to be the only time i can fit it in. Or should i switch to waking up early to do cardio, and lifting before i go to bed?

I think doing cardio on an empty stomache and after a weight training session are old wives' tales. People offer rationale for those types of training that are far too simplistic. I think both of those times are actually very poor for doing cardio. You're likely to burn muscle along with fat and lose a good amount of intensity.

doing it before bed isn't a good idea, because then you need quite a while to cool down before you'll be able to get to sleep...

The most important thing is to do it! I would not get too hung up on the timing thing, just get it in. The idea is to burn additional calories, this is what aids with the fat loss. More calories burned, more weight loss. You will retain lean tissue provided you are getting adequate protein.

For example, I work evenings,so when I am training for a competition, at night, midnight, when I get home, I change into sweats and go up to the local high school track, come home and go to bed. I will have a mix glutamine/protein drink just prior. Last comp I was in the best condition ever.

No, I stayed up for about a half hour or so to cool down, then went to bed! When time constraints are tough, you have to do what you have to do. I pushed myself, I had a goal in mind to reach. It is not the easiest thing in the world to do, go doing HIIT cardio at midnight after work, but I guess it depends on your goals. Actually I would sleep pretty good.

sounds good- running at midnight to stay in shape and reach your goals- thats what i call self-disciplin! Most of us would find an excuse not to go- because of time. well you learn to love it huh?

Up until recently I was doing all my training at night. I would end with my cardio about 9:30pm and get home , shower and have a protien shake then go to sleep. Best sleep I ever had!
Not to mention a protien shake b4 bed is excellent. Iknow people who wake up every 3 hrs for a shake when they are competing.

At night, I don't add anything except protien. Most of the time I use water, sometimes milk if I want to have more fat.
I work out at Nautilus Plus in Laval. I Know Decarie Square very well.I used to play snooker at Jilly's.

Sure is kaylad24. That is exactly how I do it...I lift in the morning, cardio at night. I like to separate the 2 to aid my muscle recovery time somewhat.

Right now I'm using Xtreme power whey isolate. 30grms protien per scoop. (chocolate) You can check it out at nutrition-zone.com. I also used MVP and basic but the numbers weren't as high.
