Hi, I'm just wondering.. sometimes when I'm at the gym I see women running on the treadmill. I notice that some of them are rather.. bulky/chubby/fat on top but they have nice toned legs. Does this mean that if I keep running and don't do any other workouts this will be my fate too? (NOooooooooooo!) My legs are starting to get pretty toned but the rest of me is still fat-y. Does this sound OK to you? I run about 2.5-3.5km three times a week minimum, and I do 5 kinds of arm exercises 20 reps plus 40 situps- all these I try to do about 4 sets minimum. Bleah. Also, to the girls, does PMS affect your diet much? I find myself craving for lots of food when I have PMS and it really quite ruins my diet!! Either that or I end up feeling quite.. ravenous. Argh. I would be very very very thankful if anyone could reply. Appreciate it.

I think it all depends on your body type. When I don't run or do any exercise at all I tend to be smaller up top and larger at the bottom, when all I do is run regularly, then I'm the same way but just a much smaller version of that. When I'm PMSing I tend to want chocolate so I'll go ahead and have a lil' instead of depriving myself.

kitten - make sure not to neglect core strength. The lifts that burn the most calories are the ones that use the largest muscle groups - legs (!!), back and chest. Training only your extremities rather than core muscles as well is a good way to get injured and develop odd looking imbalances.

Good advice above. Also remember genetics plays a huge role in your progress. That doesn't mean your screwed because you have a certain gene that keeps you from reaching your goal, it only means that you have to work even harder. Also, you can not spot reduce. Continue your cardio, include a good balanced diet, maybe a 40/40/20 ratio, AS WELL AS a complete (meaning, full body) weight training program. In order to stay symmetrical and prevent injury you must train every body part. I recommend once a week for each body part. The key is to actually challenge your body. Good luck hun.
