How do you push yourself when you have no motivation and you just keep eating?I want to catch the eye of a guy I like but first I want to lose weight (not just for him but for me too). How can I lose weight when I cant push myself hard enough and I live with other people who buy junk food? They will not change their lifestyles to fit mine. Is it a good idea to do cardio in the morning and add alil weight training after cardio to help burn the fat?

Hi Onelil:
Sounds like a two-part question; motivation and catching a guy's eye. lol Anyway, motiviation can be a difficult feeling to master. I have days when I lack motivation to do anything. I think that happens to many of us. The only way I find around that is purely getting off my butt and doing it. Why this works for me is because I think about how much better I feel mentally afterwards, it motivates me to just "do it." (Nike Ad) Buy a fitness magazine too. Reading articles on fitness and just seeing the fit ppl in the mag is a good motivator. I'm always pumped after reading and looking at the pictures.

Second, catching a guy's eye. First of all, hopefully this guy can see beyond the book cover and is interested in what you have inside. In reality, looks are important for that first impression, yes. However, personality, wit, and intelligence provide fuel for a long lasting relationship and should be the true motivator for that potential beau.

A cardio session first thing in the morning is a good idea. I read that cardio prior breakfast provides the best opportunity to burn fat since your body is still catabolic from that night's sleep. This means your body is using stores for providing energy for your cardio. Bad side, the body will rob from your muscles to provide this energy as well without fresh fuel from eating. Regarding the weight training, I do a cardio after weight training simply because a cardio before robs me of some energy. I like to be fully charged before strength training.

There are others on this site that can provide some great information on this subject and I'm sure they'll be responding soon.

Good luck.

Onelilhorangi...funny you should be having these motivational problems with the food aspect. Go to the General Health and Fitness section of this board. I just put up the other day a post on that that may help you, entitled MOTIVATION. Hope reading it helps, and will keep me from excessive typing too! Good luck....

Set up a system. Find a way to reward yourself at the end of a day where you avoid bad foods. Start keeping a food log and tracking your calories. When you actually see the damage on paper, it can help. When you get used to not eating the stuff, you start to not miss it. I used to eat fast food every single day. Now it feels totally out of place in my day. When you feel the difference, you won't want to go back.
