I was always told this is a huge NO NO. Shrugs are what they are..."SHRUGS"..up and down..like you were saying "I dont know"......Well anyway, I watched a so called Personal Trainer perform them today rolling his shoulders all over the place with a lot of weight. If I used his form I would be sidelined for months......my shoulders could not handle that.......just my two cents.

Nope you are right, though you still see a lot of this exercise being done. It does hit the shrugs well, but the chance for ripping and tearing the shoulder joint is much greater. Besides you get better results outta of doing it the right way.

Yeah, just because someone is a personal trainer, it doesn't mean that they really know what they are doing. I know a few poeple that got their certification and I was amazed at the lack of knowledge they had when it came to working out.

Being a personal trainer means that they must know alot of things about a wide range of health subjects. Some of finner things get forgotten or left out I think.

Just my two cents too :D

Shoulder shrugs/rolls are great for your shoulders they stretch all the muscles around them including the lats upper chest wall, pecs. And increase your flexability. BUT you do them VERY slow and with NO weights. Thats a rip waiting to happen
