The best time would be afterward to get the protein and carbohydrates into your body and to your muscles.

BUT the very best thing straight after your work out is LIQUID protein (goes faster to the body) -a protein shake.

For the rest of the day, I only eat protein bars when I got nothing else or if I'm out.
Better for you anyway!
