i don't know if i should be strengthening my wrists or putting some type of a guard on them. about 5yr ago i sustained an injury by slinging food off heavy glass dishes in a dishroom. after doing that for about 2 weeks one day my wrists just gave out-meaning the muscle that allows me to stop the slinging motion quit working.(so of course the heavy plate went flying accross the room)
now when i lift, i can feel the same feeling coming back like my wrists are going to give and the weights are gonna fly.
if i need to strengthen my wrists, how do i do that?

I would do some work on the fore arms. Try implementing wrist curls, standing and sitting, with both dumbells and bells. alternate weekly.
Start off light, this will stregnthen the forearms, and add weight eventually.
Hope this helps.
