I've been drinking a protein shake after I have a lifting session. I recently switched from the EAS brand to Champion Nutrition. I've noticed now that and this is sort of embarrassing (blush) my stomach is very gassy. Someone told me if you switch to a purer protein powder (no fillers) that this can happen. I usually use milk to mix the power - using water just tastes gross! The same person suggested using half milk and half water with the powder. Does this sound like a good idea? BTW - I do not have a lactose intolerance or anything.

you should use water.......milk slows digestion down and your muscles wont' get that protein for 1 hour or more. They need it now lol.............-------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

Hey wyrdgirl ~ I recently saw this topic discussed on another forum. Look at Female Discussions ... the topic was labeled "Embarrasing Question". :)

Check and see what your protein powder is. If it is Whey concentrate, try changing to a whey isolate. (bars are notoriously bad for inferior protein, and if sugar free, watch the stuff that ends in "ol".

THanks I checked out the other post. I'm just drinking one shake a day and I thought it might be the brand. Before I wasn't having any problems. I will try choking it down with water instead of milk.

Big Andrew - According to the label it is micro-filtered and ion-exchange whey protein concentrate and isolate.
xxxrajxx - I will try it today as you suggest. THanks for the advice. Obviously, I'm new to the protein supplementation  |

All protein has fillers unless it is pure. To find out how pure your protein is, devide the grams of protein per scoop by the serving size per scoop. This will tell you what % is protein.
Anything below 80 in my opinion is inferior if you are using a product with no carbs/fats. Like Andrew said, switch up to isolate. And Always use water post workout. Right now I use ISO-RICH Soy protein powder which conatins 25grams per serving. I *have* to skim milk with it because with water it makes me feel sick and I can never end up drinking it. Is there something you guys can recommend that might be better for me? I try to consume 50grams per day. I am 5'2, 125 lbs. Trying to get down to 105 or atleast 110 :) Without losing my muscle! hehe Also I can't seem to find where you fill out your profile. *embarassed* Could someone point me in the right direction?

I think soy wil give you gas lol different kind or protein.....go with whey.........try looking into 100% optimum whey......... 23gr protein.....it has 1 g fat 2 carbs for only ONE scoop......fairly cheap too 5lbs for about 40bucks....thats last me about 2 3 months....and I use 2 1/2 scoops at a time.-------------- My drinking squad, has a cheerleading problem!! |

One would have to determine the goal of the outcome to decide whether to use whey or soy wouldn't they?
I believe since scp21 is trying to lose pounds as well as keeping muscle mass, soy would be the way to go. |

I mix my protein blend (GeniSoy (chocolate or strawberry banana)/Rice Bran Protein) with organic fat free yogurt. I get the added benefits of yogurt as well as the protien and using French Vanilla or Strawberry enhances the taste of the shake - even plain makes it taste better than just the shake alone.
