I am a 38 yr old female who has lifted weights for almost 20 years. I love weight lifiting and I've always done cardio in the past but lately I do not have as much time to allocate to working out and I would like to allocate my time towards weight loss. Right now, I can work out about 4 to 5 days a week 1.5 to 2 hours (max) a session. My current trainer usually gives me only 20 minutes on the bike or treadmill and the rest is heavy weight training, with some circuit training on my most recent program. I would like to lose about 15 lbs and although I know that diet is the most significant factor to weight loss I would like to optimize my time working out. My trainer believes that I should continue lifting the heavier weights, doing 3 to 5 sets of 10 to 20 reps since muscle tissue burns more calories than fat. I feel that my time should probably be used more towards cario and that I should be lifting a lower weight with more reps. I am very strong but I recently did an aerobic class with bands and after 20 reps I was dying - I must have no endurance. Any suggestions?

He is correct for weight loss. Weight training will accomplish fat loss quicker. I would go with heavy weight with low reps, 8-10, but he is the pro. Training secession seems to be too long though. I have always heard that anything over 1 hr is counterproductive toward building muscle
