I was wondering when certain medications state weight gain as one of the side effects is this due to causing more cravings and eating more or more junk food? Can you still loose weight?

Depends what the medication is.
A lot of them cause weight gain by stimulating the appetite, so it should still be possible to lose weight if intake is kept the same. Some have metabolic effects as well - for example steroids such as prednisolone slow your metabolism, and some diabetic meds cause increased storage of fat, in these cases it may be harder to lose weight.

What about the anti-depressant remeron?

I'm afraid I don't know what remeron is - we don't have it in the UK. (We may have it under a different name)
As far as I'm aware, most of them act on the appetite, rather than having metabolic effects, but I can't say for definite in this case.
