I've been vegetarian for almost four months, read up on it, and I know for a fact that I'm doing it right. I plug everything I eat into the dietary journal on FT and my nutrients are fine, my protein is fine, etc.

I'm wondering if anyone has any really good protein sources that are vegetarian (hopefully vegan, because I try to avoid milk and eggs whenever I can). I know cottage cheese is, and I make a good pasta with that, but anything else? I have soy-meats and protein shakes daily, it just gets a little boring. Any ideas?

Thanks

vegetarianboy....here is a pretty good site for vegetarian bodybuilders, and this link is a direct link for the high protein foods for vegetarians. May want to explore the whole site, seems pretty good. Best of luck to you, and hope this helps...just copy and paste the link.

tofu? get yourself a good veggie cookbook with tofu recipes and you'll be pretty set. also, some morningstar products are surprisingly high-protein and really easy to take for lunch and toss in the microwave. kind of a funny veggie story...

so i used to be (was for ~7 years) a vegetarian and sometimes only fish eater. anyway, a "guy-guy" roomie of mine was cooking his post-gym dinner - a breaded chicken patty. another roomie walks in the kitchen. "so jake, since when do *you* eat morningstar stuff?" jake is a little confused. "jake, why don't you look at the ingredients on that package?"

no chicken. so jake throws the "chik patty" away and asks if i want the rest (i say no, i wasn't a fan of the breaded chicken even when i did eat chickens). mind you, he had already eaten 1/2 the box!

anyway, so when he gets a new box of real chicken patties, we do a little protein comparison. really, the veggie ones weren't too bad at all. but he refused to eat them!
