Your 1st set of 20 is actually a warm up set. It should be done with a weight that lets you do 20, not much resistance. The last 3 are the working sets. Hope this helped.

So I have been trying to do a workout that calls for different sets/reps but the esential point is 20/12/10/8 (it is my Freetraners fit plan). I just started this, and I am used to doing reps of 10/8/8 or the like. I have to reduce my weight a lot to get a straight 20 out without stopping, so I kept the weight relatively the same and take a pause around the 10th rep. I pause for less than a minute, and I can pump out the next 10. The funny thing is, I can do the same weight on my second and third set and get 12 or 10 out again without any problem Is this: A, defeating the purpose of doing a set of 20reps or B, ok? how might this change my results? I would like to be able to just pump out the straight 20, but it seems that I would have to reduce the weight too much to be productive? Advice?

Ahh ok, cool. I have never done a routine that called for 20 reps in a set so I was a bit confused. That makes sense. Thanks!
