okay so I've been working out for over a year now and I have gained some lean muscle in my chest/leg areas, but for some reason my stomach is still big and my face still looks fat. I'm wondering if I should ONLY do cardio for the next couple of months and see if that would help getting rid of the excess fat. I'm just afraid of losing my mass/strength at the same time. I try to get to the gym 3 days a week at least. Please give me some insight.

Check your diet. If you are not eating right then exercise is not going to do anything for you. If you don't eat a diet that is going to help burn the fat, then all you are doing with weightlifting is making the muscle under the fat bigger, so it looks like you may be getting fatter. You have the eat right to gain what you want.

Fitness is not 50% gym and 50% diet. It is 100% gym and 100% diet.

also you might be very subjective in the way you are seeing your weight... I strongly suggest getting your body fat measured by a personal trainer. -those lousy machines they sometimes have at the gyms will not tell you anything-...

this is the only way to see the benefits of exercise. unfortunately the scale and the mirror are not our best friends when we are not happy with our body image...

also cardio will not be a solution if you don't get your body fat measured believe me. I ran a marathon.. ran over 600 miles to train and lost only 4 lbs in the process. however, I lost 10% body fat... and that is something. now I am adding more weight training so I can see some of that muscle under the fat :)

man, i have the same problem too, i'm doing a lot of the HIIT cardio along with pullups and pushups and crunches......but I still have the fat looking face and the spare tire....every other part of my body is toned...i keep my diet in check and everything but the fat is still there. I guess i'll just keep training til i drop.:(

Yeah I understand the eating part, I do watch what I eat...most of the time. I mean who doesn't like indulging with pizza and stuff like that. But for the most part, lunches consist of a sandwich and either macaroni salad, or soup. Dinner is usually pasta or egg sandwich and soup or something with fish or chicken, the only thing is I do eat take out about 4 times a week, sometimes more, but I still watch what I get (for example no fries). I'm not really into the dieting aspect because it doesn't work when I eventually start eating normal again, which everyone does. I understand about the cardio thing, I usually do two cardios and one weight night a week (chest, shoulders, triceps one week, biceps, forearms, and back the other). So I'll probably stick to that and see how it goes.
