As I understand it, I think swimming is more for cardio i.e. to raise the heart rate & metabolism. It is good for stamina and exercises muscles but I don't think it will specifically build them up without a diet to go with it & other exercises. Probably best to enrol on a programme to build up muscles and ft will give you a programme for diet & exercise. I currently swim once a week but combine with running, cycling, walking as well as my programme of exercises on here.

A water aerobica class will help tone muscles pretty quick. I was surprised how fast I noticed results when I tried a class. I think weights will build up muscle as long as your diet is right.

I find swimming after a workout helps to lesson the effect of delayed onset muscle soreness.

I usually swim after my workout also and then the hot tub. What a treat.
