If you are trying to increase your lean muscle you definitely need protein. It is best to get it from food but unless you plan to eat a lot of meat you will probably need to supplement. There are several types of protein that you can take advantage of-egg, cassein, soy, and whey. (Do a search for protein-asimmer posted a good summary about the types and functions of the different proteins in the diet forum. It is a must read. ) A good protein supplement is whey isolate (the best and the most expensive) and whey concentrate. The whey is best for post workout. The price varies depending on the brand and mix. But it is worth the price. Glutamine is a pretty good supplement too. I would also suggest a good multi-vitamin as well. Later you can do as goldengloves suggests and add creatine. IMO the priority of supplements would be protein, glutamine, creatine. I would add these as your diet and exercise start coming together. Hope this helps.
