I think its once again time......for a "challange"........somthing like last time.......max on squats, dls, and bench presses. Weight lifted/your bw......that way its fairly, far across the board.
example........200lb guy benches 200..........200/200=1 300lb guy benches 300 .............300/300=1 So your compared lb for lb the weight you lifted. LAdies could h ave seperate catagory. And i think we had a bodyfat section too.......for those trying to loose body fat. So anyone game? or you scared of a "panty waist"? lol -------------- " The only true eye, is your minds eye"- plato |

I can't do the DLs or Squats because of my back (well, actually because I'm afraid of a panty waist  )
but I'm probablt up for the rest of the challenge. I seem to remember that the pre-challenge preparation was one of the best parts of the last challenge. |

Sounds good. I would suggest setting up a few catergories to participate in
1. BF% reduction 2. % lifting gains in each exercise 3. weight reduction 4. something with cardio - not sure what 5. Muscle mass increase (measurements) |

fsdsk.....last time we used my formula......weight lifted/body weight........that gives you a score.....and thats a percentage.......without needing weight classes persay.
If you can maintain your strength and loose 10lbs......then do it.. makes your percentage higher.... 120lb guy benching 200 has a score of 1.666- if he looses 20lbs.....his score is 2......as in 200% more than his body weight. we could add the mile run in there , and for every sec. you improve......you can add a point.....to your totals. But no walking a mile 1st time...in 20mins.....then jopgging it and getting 8 mins lol -------------- " The only true eye, is your minds eye"- plato |

I was thinking that for cardio you could look at resting pulse at the beginning of the challenge and at the end to see who's drops the most - this would mean that those of us who are broken and don't do running can all take part :)

Hmm I'm thinking I may have measured myself wrongly after reading the article about body fat... it was pretty hard to do some bits without the tape measure slipping.... I'm going to try that again.

Try buying some calipers they will give you a more (but not completely) accurate reading

25 is bad for a girl........18-21 is concidered quite lean for a girl.-------------- " The only true eye, is your minds eye"- plato |

well 25% is on the upper end of a healthy body fat....usually it's 18-22 for avg for female..but some estimates are as high as 22-25%..that I have seen...so 25 is ok...but you should aim to drop 5-8% as you continue to train....

I have a question I just assumed we were only counting the plates, are we supposed to count the barweight too? also, I've been working out alone in my garage and have been to nerveous to attempt a max effort. I could prolly just drop the bar for the max DL and Squat if I went too heavy, but for the bench I might injure myslf.. I did check menace's link to the 1rpm caculator, and it up'ed my lift roughly 10 lbs for a 1rpm do I need to change my starting stats or am I alright with the originals so long as I keep within the same exact terms to post my final stats? sorry to be such a pain |
2005/05/03, 04:24 AM
First off...since you're lifting the bar...you should definitely add it to the total amount lifted....so 45lb for a standard olympic sized barbell....
just train in the reps you're comfortable...and convert your results using that calculator...it's fine...don't give it a 2nd thought Also there isn't someone to spot you? training alone can be quite dangerous.... | |

nah menace..it's just me alone in the garage for right now. I've been increasing super slow to try to avoid injury, and I bought cheap mirrors to watch my form.
well dag...all this time..I've never counted the barweight..I suddenly feel tougher! thanks man:) |
2005/05/04, 03:50 PM
get some resistance bands....you may get a lot of use from them...and combine them with free weights....this will insure you're using very little actual free weight and you can go 'heavier'...so that if squats call for 135lb of total resistance...you may be able to use 90 lb of bands and the 45lb olympic sized barbell....which I think is a nice compromise...a lot safer...and very effective(this is how the world record in bench was achieved)...it's also a lot easier on the joints....
