is it necessary to have a spot when doing the 12 week mass program?

It is best to have a spotter throughout all your programs. For example, in bench presses and squats, a partner allows you to get to your maximum without being worried that the weight might fall on you. Also if you are using a smith machine or anything else, in which you don't have to worry about the weight falling on you, a training partner can also help you to grant out forced reps or give you forced negatives.

Use a spotter when lifting heavy! Squats, bench press are exercise I always use a spotter when lifting heavy. A spotter can help in more ways than one. Push you a long, allow you to concentrate rather than worry you can't do it and maybe get a few negatives in at the end just to make sure the muscle is taxed.
