I recently started lifting again after a 6 month layoff. A couple weeks ago I started feeling tightness in my back especially when I got up in the morning. It feels like it's in the muslces toward the rear of my ribs. My left shoulder has also felt stiff. From what I've read, this sounds like I've been working my chest out too hard and my back muscles are out of balance. Any thoughts? Should I just scale back a bit on chest and lift a little heavier on back day? How does everyone manage to find the right balance?
Hey Dave and welcome, first off we need you to fill out your profile so we can help you a little better. Second you want to train all muscle groups equally. I don't think it has anything to do with working your chest more than your back, I think it's more improper form or lifting a little more than you can handle. Are you arching your back when benching?...try putting your feet up on the bench this help a little more with form. Hope this helps
1 form
2 warming up properly
I wouldn't put my feet on the bench just yet, by putting your feet up, you have no stablization, side to side. This if done improperly could hurt you worse. I'd say work on the 2 above and see if that helps.
DO you think you have an imbalance honestly? if so correct it.
Try some dumbells, dumbells to me feel more natural and I actually feel it in my chest.
