Hello everyone. I have some questions.
1- I would like to add a few inches to my chest, arms, thighs, back etc. I'd aso like to lose about 2 nches off my waist, but I know it's difficult to bulk up and slim down simultaneously, so I'm going with bulking up first cuz if I bulk up, my waist will look better due to a better proportioned body. Plus, then i can just lose the 2 inches with relative ease... I hope.
Anyway, it's difficult to make 6 meals a day, or even eat 6 meals a day because how much tuna and other protein can you eat a day efore eventually wanting to gag? So, I was womdering if I could suppliment protein shakes for 3 of my meals. I have whey protein with nor sugar added that I mix with gatorade after my workouts. I also have a chocolate flavored whey shake mix that has about 10-11 g. of sugars in each scoop that I mix with soy milk and oats in the morning. I usually add abot 3 scoops to that shake. I was wondering if this shake with the sugars is good and if it would be beneficial to add a second of these shakes to my day in order to bulk up. I Dont wanna add fat during the bulking up process, just lean muscle, but shakes are much easier to swallow and quicker to make than meals that I start to hate eating after a while. Also, I saw a recipe for a homemade shake that BB1 recommended. It is way to thick for me to swallow or way too much when I water it down. I could use it as a desert though.

2- Also, in addition to weight training, I've been trying to get into HIIT. I feel better when I do some cardio. Like I'm not getting fat and like my blood is pumping like it sould. It's more psychological than physiological, Im sure. I know that cardio is not so good for bulking up. Should I just cut it out all together?

3- If I'm not on a diet, are salad dressings etc. bad? It's not animal fat. It's not hydrogenated, so I don't know if its something I shouls avoid or embrace. I eat a slice of wheat bread with some olive oil on it sometimes cuz its a quick 200-300 calories. I was wondering if I should cut back on that.

4- Do you think I could reach my goal by the end of March/early April?

5- Why do I look buffer when I stand about 10-15 feet away from the mirror than I do when I stand 2-3 feet away? I wonder if it's the lighting.

Thanks everyone. It's nice to be here!

Welcome to the site! All in all it seems like your doing pretty well. Heres just some things to consider.

1- The key to bulking without gaining fat starts with two basic elements, Adequate protein & adequate calories. Your proten intake should be fixed, around 1grm per pound of bodyweight per day & then just eat plenty of good food. it's always best to try to eat whole food meals without all the sugars but if using the shakes allows you to meet your nutritional needs then by all means use them, just try to eventually replace them with whole foods, but to start out they will work alot better than missing meals.

2- If the cardio makes you feel better than by all means do it. Just be sure to increase calories to compensate for the increased activity & if possible do cardio after weights or better yet in seperate workouts. HIIT will be a good choice as prolonged continuous bouts of cardio can lead to muscle tissue breakdown, just keep it in moderation.

3- The addition of some fats especially healthy ones is fine, just be sure not to go overboard. If you find that your gaining excess fat you may want to cut back, but be sure to include some healthy fats in your diet. Once again moderation.

4- I believe you have plenty of time to make the changes your after. Just keep at it & stay focused & by then you probably wont even recognize yourself.

5- Yes, lighting does make a big difference, little trick the movie & photography industry has used since the beggininig of time. In addition there is the factor of percieved self image. sometimes you'll see yourself not as youself, but as how someone else would kind of a weird phenomenom. It has happened many times after training for a while you catch a glimpse of yourself in a miror not realizing it's you & think "wow, they're in great shape" just to realize it's you! It's funny we see ourselves constantly so sometimes we don't notice the changes we make over time.

Well just some thoughts for now once again welcome, good luck, & if you have more questions don't hesitate to ask!
