I recently injured myself benching. The cause was from a short, and light warm up. Plainly put, it wasn't enough. It has been 11 days since the accident and I've recovered full mobility. However, strength has yet to be back to normal.I advise all those of you who injure yourself to be leary of Orthopeidic Surgeons(aka "Sports Medicine Specialist"). The particular one I dealt with didn't review the MRI that was taken, and simpley agreed with the review of a radiologist 30 miles away. He tried pressuring me into surgery for the next day and even pre-scheduled an appointment without my consent. This Surgeon has a great reputation and works on the Athletes that perform in Walt Disney's "Cirque Du Soleil." In Short ALWAYS HAVE A SECOND OPINION. It could save you from unneccessary scars.

Did you ever get a second opinion(hard to deduce from your letter)? Doc's have a way of dealing with their fellows and it's hard to tell who he talked to and their expertise. But as far as surgeries go it is sometimes best to get a second consult. Just make sure that the second is competent. Remember that everyone puts their pants on the same way and just may make a mistake. By the way what is the track record of your "Specialist"?

So I didn't need a second opinion, thanks to Anatomy 101. I went to the hospital and retrieved my copy of the MRI and the Radiologist's report. Which read: "definite tear in the musculosupertendonous joint." What does that mean? It means that the tendon was torn not at the bone, but where it turns into muscle. Luckily this area has a high blood flow. So recovery is possible without surgery. So basically this told me that he didn't read the report. In fact I made the "Specialist" eat his words and apologize for the waste in time. But on my way out he ask that I: "return every two weeks for a check-up, so I can make sure everything's fine, and healing well." What a load of crap. He just wanted a new set of golf clubs and I was his guinea pig. Watch out fellow BB's those Orthopeidic's are surgery happy.
