hey,
I'm currently a sophomore in HS, love to workout out and do so an hour and a half 3 days a week. The problem is I'm getting around 5-6 hours of sleeps on weekdays and feel drained. I have read many articles about how important getting 9-10 hours of sleep is to gaining muscle and for your body to repair itself. Should I stop working out till I can get at least 8 hours a night?
Thanks

Murkster do not stop working out, although it's preferable to sleep 9-10 hours a night, you can still make good gains, and you can 'make up' some that 'sleep deficit' during the weekends. To get the most out of sleeping less do the following:

-Sleep in a Cool Room
-Make sure the room has little or no distractions
-Make sure the room is dark
-go to sleep at the same exact time
-wake up at the same exact time, even if you must force youself
-short naps during the day 10-15 minutes might help keep you refreshed a bit....don't go beyond 20 minutes or it will be counterproductive
-meditation also helps 10-15 minutes before sleep or aftering waking up
-make sure to eat well with frequent well balanced meals, 5-8 times daily(healthy meals+snacks)

sleep deprivation leads to what's been termed sleep debt...which is repayed through longer REM cycles and/or longer sleep duration...

i have to go with menace on this one.....my college professor made us research this and as menace said if you miss out on say 8 hrs of sleep, you will make up for it with an extra 2 hrs of REM sleep the next time you sleep (give or take)........and REM sleep is what the body needs to recouperate. dont beleive everything yoru teacher tells you just because they are a teacher, i have proved many wrong in my day

yep.... I sleep like a bear when I miss 24hrs or undersleep some days...as do most college students....doctors at hospitals, nurses, etc...

I been taking melatonin and although it stops helping you fall asleep if u take it consistantly, it does seem to improve the quality of my sleep....
