What happens if, say, you go away for a wee holiday and miss 1 or 2 workout days in the midst of your training program? Do you make up for them on free days or just let em go and not stress?

Try to fit them in if you can. You don't have to do anything drastic, just change your routine around to fit them in. For instance, if you missed back, chest, and shoulder days, do a day with chst and back combined, or chest/shoulders, etc. If you are doing full body workouts, hen get in as soon as you can, and just get back in the saddle, but with your normal adequate rest. These really can't be made up in any way.

We just did that. Knew we were going to be gone Thur/Fri so combined Tues shoulders/glutes with Thurs legs and did a shorter version of it on Tues. Then did our Friday chest/tri on Wed. Didn't get in all of our cardio for the week, but we were at the fair for 4 days so did a LOT of walking! By doing that we didn't feel like we missed out on workouts and enjoyed our time away.
