If you already have strong abdominals then you can diet it will shed the fat infront of it. So its alot more defined.

If your abs aren't that strong you want to use weight while you do sit-ups or any ab oblique exercise do about 3-4 sets of 6-8 reps, don't run to the gym and do this everyday do this about a couple times a week judging on how they feel. If you don't have strong abs this should make them sore. Doing with weight training will build the muscle and the diet will allow you to show them off.

Not really... Just means you pushed yourself. your abs were not used to that kind of exercise and now your body is rebuilding them to increase your strength. Although after one day of working out abs you will not see an increased strength it takes many workouts. Sore abs are normal after having a good ab workout
