I was playing indoor cricket earlier tonight (4 hours ago?) and my shoulder felt like it "popped" out and then popped back in place. Afterwards, it was hard to throw the ball at full strength, and now it feels a little sore. It has happened a few times before, all from a similar throwing action. What could be happening here? How can I treat and even prevent this?

Hi Igmgl
I think i have the same problem throwing ball from the boundry line. Shoulder gets sore but then its fine the next morning. I don't feel any pain while i press on shoulder. However, everytime i move it, i can feel the pain. The pain feels like somewhere deep right by the joint. I can't help you with this problem but if you find a solution let me know.
cheers,

igmgl, you have no profile - but i can imagine, all physical activiti that is new for your body (you dont have regular training) invoke muscular fever. Next day you feel pain and fatigue. Great prevention is stretching of course, and with regular stretch (must be doing every day) you gain also better flexibility. maybe this help - good luck

Actually, I play sport three nights a week and have been doing so for about 4 years, so physical activity isn't new to me. This problem has happened before and I think it may have something to do with how I move my arm when throwing.

i agree with lgmgl, i have the exact same problem. my right shoulder popped for the first time when i was throwing a cricket ball. now i can never throw a ball at my full strength, it sucks. i went to a doc, but he told to lift small weights to strengthen the joint. i did physiotherapy, but no good result. if i try to throw a ball too hard im sure it will dislocate even now. grrr

well the problem is, once your shoulder pops once, you will never be comfortable when ur throwing a ball again. i cant even play badminton or tennis cos my shoulder will pop if i try to hit too hard..:(
