I have a question and thought this would be the best place to post it. I have been told by bodybuilders, trainers and my husband that I have a good body for serious bodybuilding. I can develop muscle very fast, along with other body characteristics. My question is this, am I too old (38)to just now get started on it? Secondly, as I get older, lets say in my 60's, what will happen to all that body mass?....Fat??? I have always been afraid to work out too much in fear of too much muscle growth. Also, I have a eating disorder to deal with. Please give me your opinion/advice.
Thanks

Go for it! It is never too late to reach a goal. If you truly work hard it will happen.

Exercise is for everyone, why, theres this guy in my gym who is 62 and hes working out.You r 38 and thats young, and anyway its a loooong way to 60.....by then you will be a professional. And trust me, if you r in this sport till you r 60, you will have no mind to leave it.
About your eating disorder, well that is something you will have to take care of, dont eat a lot, eat smart.

best of luck....uttiya

Look lady females do not have a hormone called testosterone for which they cannot develop muscles so fast like men. Also
the age 38 is a bit 2 much for u 2 start now(dont mind).Need not be depressed for that its better u do regular exercise 2 keep urself fit during ur old age.I prefer females with slim figures and tender hands like demi moore and alicia syllverstone.Send me a pic of urs so that i can comment on ur figure(dont mind again).

I don't know archan, there are different age groups she can compete in locally. I think it would be a bit premature to dismiss her goal to compete. As along as she keeps realistic goals in mind than I think she can succeed. No, she probably won't win an America or Olympia but local competitions, sure. And just so you know, not all women work out to look good for their men, I work out because I enjoy every single minute of it(except cardio;)

Thanks I_sly, I looked up Competition information both local and national and appears that Mr. Archan would not be correct. There are several that are broke down by age, several with 40 year olds and above. Nevertheless, thanks for the pick me up it was much needed after Mr. Archan's body slam.

Us girls must rise against those men whom are "intimidated" by a strong woman! Both physically and mentally:)

Is it the fact that we are doing this for ourselves rather than them???? Who knows. Regardless, I found out the truth about competitions and was encouraged by a few. So as the saying goes....In your face!

As any body builder knows dieting is 80% of the sport while exercise only accounts for 20%. Exercise is simply a catalyst to your food. So you'll need to be serious about your eating disorder. It tells your body where you want the muscle. And no, you're not to old to start body building. You've got a long way to go until your limbs get filled with maggots so enjoy these years.
Contrary to the idiot's belief, muscle does not turn into fat later in life. Your body will feed off the muscle quickly, but you will still be left with a hint of muscle to show for it. Your body likes to eat the important things first, like protein and calcium. As a result You need to supplement properly. That is why people have a hard time losing weight. Their body doesn't want McDonald's if it can Prime rib. So if you're looking to trim up, run on an empty stomach in the morning. You'll see the difference in three weeks.

Thank you sandman, you have been encouraging, unlike some others in here. Your explaination is VERY helpful. Thanks again!
