My goal is to run a 5K under 30 minutes. I'm real close (30:32), but I really want to break that 10 min/mile by more than a second or two!

I want to ultimately finish a marathon in 4:45- 5 hrs (last one 5:18- with serious hills, I might add).

I figure this type cross training will help me get stronger and toned up. Losing those last 10-15 will help too.

Suggestions? Thanks-

Hey, when running do you always time yourself?
hi, when i started running I did 6k in 40 mins, its now down to 32:30 mins!
I often incorporate a jog, run, sprint into my run, if you use lamp posts or telephone posts as a guide depending on their spacing 1 or 2.
and do that for say a mile, mile and a half.
It certainly helped me, i hope it helps you!

Be careful. training for a marathon (endurance) is very different than training for a 5K. there are tons of plans on the web for marathon depending on your schedule. for the 5K, start with a simple 1/2 light jog, 1/2 mile increased pace, 1/2 mile back to a light jog, 1/2 mile increased, etc. each set increase your second 1/2 mile pace slightly. start with 3 miles. See where that takes you Every other day try to add anther 1/2 mile.
