Strength training, whether it's building mass or not, will it improve the ability to resist injury? Particularily I'm thinking of blows like punches or kicks or impact from a fall.

I think doing a log of heavy compound movements like squats, front squats, deadlifts, etc. definitely help strengthen your entire body, including your abs, obliques, lower back, etc.

I guess it depends where you are talking about taking punches and kicks. If it would be to the mid-section then I definitely think strength training would help.
