Recently I have been running a trail that is 2.1 miles in about 15-16 minutes and when I am done I am usually gasping for air and hot and sweaty (good workout). But I hate taking that 45 minutes drive each week to that trail...So my question is if I chose to get a bike would that just be as effective if I rode it around town for say an hour or so or something like that or would it be better to stick w/ the jogging/running?

Maybe if it was a single speed bike. If you get one of those 20 speed one it won't be the same. I used to run long distance as a kid and in the WA. Nat. Guard. and riding a bike is not the same as running.
-------------- I will get to it as soon as I am done lifting.

Why do you have to go that far just to run? You can run anywhere. Woodie is right, biking is good for the legs and it will work your lung capacity and some cardio, but you will not get the cardio that you are looking for. I know a lot of bike racers who run to manage weight and increase lung capacity so that they can breath better while racing and stuff.
I am a runner and I just jump in the car and drive out a run at the length that I would like to go. If you like trail running, I would use a bike to map out the mileage that I want, or not even care and just go by how long you run.
I like to mix it up and do running and biking myself. I ride road bike or mountain bike or run depending on how I feel and what I would like to do (or if some buds are going for a run or ride).
In other words, you will actually get a better cardio workout with running.

I echo what spaz says. Just run man. I grab my kids when I come home, and put them on their bikes, and let them lead the way! Wherever they decide to go that day, it may be 2 miles, it may be 4 miles. I just run.
-------------- I cry once a day.

I've never really been able to do the long distance running thing, i've always been able to handle short sprints better. Is there something I can do to incorporate what I'm more comfortable with for some cardio?

Have to agree with what has been said! Running is probably the best for Cardio, and getting you in good shape. I wish my knee could handle it again :( Biking is good exercise, but won't compare to a run.
You certainly don't have to go anywhere to run, you can do it anywhere. If you have the time, and a Bike, try and bike to the trail, do your run, and then bike back..now that would be a good workout  If you find driving there and back is taking up too much time, then just start going around your place.
beeman82, Sprinting is quite good cardio. Try going out, and do 1 min Sprint, and then walk for 2-3 Mins, and sprint again for a Min. Do this for 10 Sprints, and I gaurantee you will be exhausted, and have one of your Best Cardio Exercies ever. Of course, sprinting is harder on your knees than a Jog, so if you have any problems with your knee's be careful!

Never had knee problems.. atleast not yet. I just get problems with my shins when running on an incline. I could run back and forth in my yard, might scare the neighbors a bit, but will be easier on my shins.
