When losing weight do you lose body fat or muscle first? I workout while I am losing weight, but I also want to gain some muscle. I was wondering if all I am doing is maintaining the muscle I already have and not gaining.
If you are working out with weights or resistance bands, you will first gain muscle. Once your system realizes it doesn't have to hanh on to fat for energy, it will let the fat stores go and you will see the inches come off. May not be a big change on the scale, but BF% will change.

Thanks. So what I get from your post is I may actually see an increase at first on the scale because of muscle gain, but with time the fat will come off. I heard though while you lose weight your may burn your muscle before your fat. Is this due to improper diet and not doing resistance training or is your body using available sources of energy before it uses fat?
