After every work out I always like to have a shake immediately following it. Lately I have tried a new twist to my shake and the result seem good, but does it make sense?

Here is what I'm drinkin...

1 Myoplex Vanilla deluxe
1/4 cup plain non fat yogurt
1/4 cup diet orange juice concentrate
1 scoop Phosphogen Elite (orange)(33g sugar)

I usually slam half of this immediatly after its made and then sip on the rest.

I'm 5'9 155lbs. Im goal is to bulk up, and as quickly as possible without going overboard on the suppliments.

im no expert but from what ive read here its best to just slam back a protein shake with water immediatly following your workout so that the protein gets to your muscles as fast as possible.

Whey protein is the best for post workout. As mengsk says mix it with water. Your method as far as half and half is right on.

Yeah, the yogurt would slow it down. Shaps, I'm sure you get benefit from the mix. Using water is up to you.

Its a meal replacement shake, not just vanilla protein.

Maybe I'll cut the yogurt back to a spoon full instead. It adds a nice creamy mixture and helps with the taste.

BB1 gave a good alternative to weight gainers. It will prevent you from all of the sugar added to weight gainers for calories. Sounds gross but its actually really good:

blend milk, whipping cream, peanut butter, oatmeal, and whey protein powder.

This gives you the protien and calories that you need to gain weight but without all of the sugar.

Josmit, the question was asked about post workout shake. BB1's response wasn't about that. You don't want to use a weight gainer shake immediately post work out. It's a matter of absorption.

ok so im kind of piggybacking on this thread here but ive got a question related to protein supplements. As far as i can tell they are very expensive but i really want to progress fast. I found a website that reccomends making ur own protein rich shakes from dried skimmed milk powder(50g) and fresh milk (500ml) its got about 35 grams of protein in it. is this any good?

ordinaryboy, i have no idea how good that would be as a daily shake but i know for certain it wouldn't be good postworkout as stated above water is the best immediatly after your workout

To get the best results from your post woorkout shake, take it with water, avoid any fats at this time but use a fast carb such as glucose or maltose tablets. Cas and fat will slow absorbtion. The idea of the fast carbs is to induce insuline (depending on how responcive you are) this will help to shuttle the amino acids from your shake into your muscle fibers. I would say its better to use half scoop for your first shake and then half scoop 30 mins later and then a meal 30 mins after that.

So minus the yogurt and with 14 ounces of water(that was already included) is does this sound good?
