'Paul used straps or hooks on his heavy poundages. He rested 10 to 15 minutes between sets, and as much as an hour between exercises'

andrew you were doubting long rest periods...i said 5-30 min ...rest between sets...he does 30...and he unofficially was squatting 1200 in 1950s when record was less than 600...before steroids...can't blame it on that...etc...so no... long rest periods are not rediculous...

The one link shows him moving wagon wheels about 6 inches. Impressive, but not a full squat. Today's squatting standards are probably a little bit more stringent then they were back then. I believe he had 1200 lbs on his back and did 1/4 squat it but I don't believe he did 1200lb parallel squat. I also know that there is plenty of research on rest periods and a 30 minute rest period is a cool down. If you try to lift after anything over as little as 5 minutes it is tough to be great and it is likely you will get hurt. Everyone is little different on that.

I squatted 265 lbs today for 6 reps. Do I qualify?

I would think a 30 minute rest would be a cool down, although I know the russians occasionally take a 15 minute break in the middle of their session. I only do that If im really feeling it. It helps me come back refreshed. I go out and walk or something, dont just sit and be lazy, make sure to keep blood flowing

works very well for me....I take 5 minutes between heavy sets for small body parts, and 10-20 minutes, usually 15 between heavy chest, back, and leg sets....works very well for me...this is weird/awkward for a lot of people because they 'cool down' and it takes too long...but it's really effective for me....Just like working each body part once every two weeks would be awkward for msot people yet works fine for me...it depends...

indeed...

today I did my deadlift/back workout...first time in 20/21 days.....

I actually got almost 3 more reps than my personal best on deadlift...

my workout had 11 sets including 1 warm up in 2 hours and 15 minutes....11:35am to 2:50pm...rested anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes between sets...i was still dripping sweat when I left...but I sweat profusely to begin with when I workout or play basketball...
