Healthy very athletic 49 yr old male with a 50 - 70% distal biceps tear in my left (dominant) arm. Tear occurred ~ 7 weeks ago. My preference is to have the partial tear repaired ASAP so that I can return to an active lifestyle after rehab.

A good friend had a complete tear of one of his bicep brachi on his dominant side. He was in the back country at the time and didn't evacuate for medical attention. By the time he saw the MD it was too late to repair the tear. Outcome, he has an irregular lump (where the bicep contracted),and he only has one bicep instead of two for strength on the effected side.

Get a medical opinion or several if you feel necessary. Remember, surgeons will (almost) always say that surgery is best, get a good physical therapists opinion as well.

Good Luck
