tell him to get a trainer cause older people just starting to workout is different than a teenager working out in my opinion

Well you can tell him to sign up with this site and fill in the profile.. I noticed it had like 6 different age categories.. so there is training designed for his needs I'm sure..

Good luck!

Well, start here. Have him use this site to his benefit, and say you and he can do it together! However, start him off with low weight, work up to finding his optimum weight per exercise (this is something everyone should do) Other than that, I would consult his doctor see if there are any health consideration to plan for. Have fun, Cheers

your all acting as if were dealing with a 85 or 90 year old man...I see people who are much older than me coming in and out of gym feeling and looking a lot better. Infact they probably have more power and energy than I do. Age was never considered a good reason not to train...all the same if he hasn't had a chance to weight train in the past he might wana start easy and elevate the intensity from there...

hope things go well

Encourage him to. Its proven at any age to slow muscle lose and increase health and well being. If your dad is interested set him up with a personal trainer or better work out with him yourself. I wish my dad would show an interest.

I would recommend that he read "Body for Life" by Bill Phillips. A Dr. Jeffery Life who is in his sixties transformed his body into a magnificent model for anyone at any age..he is older person, however there are examples of men and women from their 20's to their 50's who have taken up fitness and have benefited not only in health but also feel good about themselves.

When my 70 year old (healthy) dad told me he wanted to start lifting I gave him an extra set of dumbbells. he was already in decent shape but now he's even better.

Work out with him, it will sustain his motivation if he has someone to share his interest with.
