Hey guys,
I've been working out for a few weeks now, and I was wondering how benificial extra oxygen would be before or after working out. I ask this because I'm fortunate enough to have my own oxygen kit at home which I use for work. Should I take some extra O2 in before or after working out, or is it not nessesary? Thanks!

Cardiovascular exercise will take care of that for you.

I think it might even be detrimental - theoretically if you have extra oxygen, your heart doesn't need to pump so much to get the oxygen round your body, and therefore you fail to make the adaptations to exercise which get you fitter.
Your body cannot really store oxygen anyway, so using it before would not make any difference.

This is very intersting... My mother in law had a triple by pass sugery about 3 yrs ago she is not active at all and is lacking oxygen... Her doctor told her that she shoud not excersise cause her lungs dont get enough oxygen... she is not on a oxygen tank and she was wondering if she gets active and trys to workout if this will harm her...??? Im not a doctor but i thought it would help with her problem,,, Am I wrong?????

your doc may be right, but it might be worthwhile getting a second opinion from a cardiologist as sometimes exercise can be beneficial.

She can have her Doctor recommend a GXT test for your Mom.
This only can be done by qualified professionals at the hospital or clinic.
-------------- Still trying to find out how to do the Hollywood Free Press.

if she had a triple bypass, that would mean her heart is what is frail and weaker......not her lungs. I think.....but i'd see a doc to what she can and can't do.
