Sounds like a cop out but it depends on your gains. One of the hardest things for most folks to accept is that in working out for mass gains, more isn't necessarily better. I'm a fair example of that. I've known better for years but I've literally gone for years and worked out six days a week and intensely at that. In my case I've worked out for well over 30 years but do so because I enjoy it. Pound for pound, I was as strong as anyone I knew and my endurance limit was off the scale. I also had a lot of injuries since my body never had a chance to repair and build. Several years ago, circumstances forced me into the more acceptable 3 to 4 day split and in the last couple of years I've put on a little over 20 lbs of quality body mass and no longer have the pains that go with over training.

You will not be able to achieve QUALITY overload very often with that type of workout schedule. Doing the same muscle group 3 times per week is too much for most. You are not getting the required recouperation, you may very well be applying overload to the muscle, but due to the fact that it is not healed from the last time, you are doing yourself harm. Even if you are going as heavy as you can each time, you are probably literally tearing down a muscle that is already torn down. So you are inticing no growth, quite possibly staying in quite the opposite, a catabolic state.
