Hello,

I am having trouble meeting my nutritional goal, I can't seem to eat as much calories, protein, carbs and fats as required, is this very bad or will I just loose the weight sooner? :(

Cavillalon,

Nutrition is a full 1/3 of your fitness goals, and not meeting your needs - either be eating too much OR not enough - will sabotage your program. SetPoint Fitness does a great job of explaining this concept. Check out an excerpt on my site:

Hi Cavillalon,
Are you going by the nutrition plan on here? Im only asking because my nutrition plan here says I have to eat over 3000 cals and there is no way I can eat that much in a day. If you search fitBuddy you will find a lot of info on how much you need to eat, there is also a good post from Vedakathryn in the obesity part of the forum that explains how the maths work on how much to eat.

I can't explain it like they can, hope you find what you are looking for.

Sorry it took long to answer but I was on Vacations .
Thanks for the replies, my goal is to loose body fat and tone, when I started my body fat was 30% yesterday, after just 1 week it was 26% (I am 5'6 and weigh 144Lbs, I am a size 7). Yes I am using the nutritional plan that is here, it says I should eat:
Protein - 144 g
Carbohydrates - 288 g
Fats - 23 g
Total Calories - 1918

but I don't even come close, on a normal day I would eat:

Protein – 83.3 g
Carbohydrates – 35.3 g
Fats – 11.7 g
Total Calories - 556

I am not hungry or weak and it is hard for me to eat more, I am wondering what I should follow, I will check on the sites/articles you mentioned.

Thanks

Cavillalon, you're right, you aren't meeting your nutritional requirements unless your goal is to weigh 60 lbs or so. To maintain 140 lbs you need to eat about 1400 clean calories a day just to be, breath and sleep. If you do 25 minutes of cardio 5 days a week that requires at least 200 more. Throw in a little weight training and the calories to grow a little muscle from that and there is the 1900 cals.

You will lose weight doing what you're doing but you will only lose weight in an unhealthy manner. You will lose muscle as much as fat. You need to know that muscle burns more calories than fat so if you build muscle your body will actually consume more fat.

As far as eating more. You will need to do this gradually. Try eating 5 or 6 small meals a day. This will boost your metabolism and help you to get more food down. Make the changes in 250 cals per day increments. Do this increase for about a week and then bump it again. You also need to eat the correct foods. Follow the P/C/F suggestions closely and maybe even keep a log of your food. You may want to look at high protein meal replacements as an eating supplement occasionally but nothing replaces good whole food.

Are you going to do any strength training. If so the workouts here are great as far as meeting a variety of goals. You are right to question your diet because its every bit as crucial as anything else you can control in weight and fitness efforts. Hope this helps, welcome to FT.

Hi Charlie, and thanks for your time, I acutally work out very hard from Monday thru Thursday. I do weights, machines and cardio. I am going to try and eat more to see if it works. I have not been loosing weight though I am still at my same weight, it is only my body fat that has gone down!

A 4% drop in BF in 1 week puts you in the category of a genetic marvel. How are you measuring BF?

Welcome, Cavillalon, to FT. Charlie is soooo right about you needing to eat more - you have to be able to have enough calories for your body to survive without going into starvation mode, which is just plain awful as you tend to start losing muscle. I have done this, many times, and I know how difficult it is to then get back on track, but it is important to do so. Eating those smaller meals throughout the day is very good advice and Charlie has helped me get back on track and I am losing consistently and eating very good. Thanks Charlie *smile*!

Good luck to you!

Hi thanks charlia and veda, I have a trainer at the gym who measure my body fat.
Actually my muscles keep on getting bigger (maybe that is why the scale has remaind the same) and the best thing is that I don't feel week or anything, this weekend I will go for groceries and I will plan 4-5 meals a day for the week, that should help.
