Is there any other exercises that would work out back width other than chin ups. I dont have nor have access to a bar. Any suggestions.

Try your local high school, public park or elementary. You'll find lots of bars there...

i just got a "pull up bar" yesterday. well i took a steel 1" diameter rod and ran it across my rafters in my garage. it works great!

It's great because it allows for different hand positions. Also, it mounts right on the door molding and no installation required. My brother in law is 250 lbs and hangs on it with no problem.

For a spot, I use a milk crate to help myself with those last few reps.
