Hey, I am 30 and have never been overly active. I am training for the military now. I am watching, counting, working out, everything, hardcore.
My question is what to do about soreness. Not necessarily, fix it but how do I know if I am just sore or if I have hurt myself. The next day, Am I supposed to work through the soreness or do a light version of my routine.
Last week I had a spot in my stomach that practically prevented me from doing crunches for a week. I can do them now but can still feel the spot. And I have had complete soreness in my entire body and limbs for two days before. The husband says I am doing to much, I have no idea. I want the best results and am not afraid to push myself, but being 30 and never active, and a smoker(I know, save it) I don't want to hurt myself.
Any advice would be wonderful.

Feeling sore after a workout is perfectly normal as long as it's only soreness. If you are in complete total pain, it's quite possible you could have hurt yourself.
Muscle soreness from a good workout should last no more than a day or two and it's ok to workout the next day as long as you are doing a different muscle group.

So should I not do a total workout everyday. Thats what I have been kinda doin. I am concentrating on doing push ups and crunches everyday(required for boot camp)at least a few everyday.
Also, though I may be sore. Is it ok to stretch the sore muscles. I have found that stretching to my limits feels good. Will I hurt myself doing that if my muscles are already sore?

I don't think you should do push-ups every day...especially if you are sore. -just what I think though

Park, I am not sure how long you have been working out for but it takes some time for your muscles to adjust to your workout. It might be best to split your your workout up and give your muscles a chance to rest.
Stretching sore muscles is fine.

I've been working out for about 4 weeks. My chances for going to the gym are slim so I do everything myself at home. Im trying to shape up some before my first full weekend of PT with other people. Trying not to embarrass myself in front of a bunch of youngins', if ya know what I mean.

park, i trained everyday in the summer, i did each muscle group 2 times a week and did 40 mins of cardio everyday, i was sore everyday after that, i learned after that that i was majorly overtraining and can actually hinder progression, espesially if youre doing a full body workout every day. try going 3 times a week doing 1 muscle group a day. 1st day chest, bi's second day tri's and shoulders and 3rd day legs and back. I've found that since ive started doing this routine ive gotten more results from this in 3 weeks than i was all summer. btw i took a month or so hiatus because my muscles were so badly overtrained. try cooling down for a bit and doing a more moderate intensity workout. just my 2cents
